The morning ritual,
ten minutes for you.

We often enter the day the way we'd enter a battlefield: alarm, phone, messages, a race against the clock. What if the morning became a moment for yourself instead? Not a 5am performance routine, but ten chosen minutes of gentleness.
Why the morning matters so much
The first minutes of the day are a threshold. What you do there colours everything else: start in reaction mode and you'll spend the day reacting. Start with a chosen gesture and you keep the feeling of being in charge of your own energy. It isn't laziness; it's a way of setting the day down.
The ritual, in four steps
- Light (1 minute). Before any screen, open the curtains or a window. Let in air and daylight. Your body understands that the day has begun.
- Breath (2 minutes). Three slow breaths, then a few gentle stretches. Nothing athletic: simply getting back in touch with your body.
- A hot drink (5 minutes). Tea, coffee, hot water with lemon. Make it with care, in a cup you love, and drink it sitting down, doing nothing else. This is the heart of the ritual.
- Intention (2 minutes). One question only: what would truly matter today? One sentence in a notebook is enough.
The mistakes that make people give up
- Trying to do too much. Meditation, exercise, reading, journaling: an overloaded ritual becomes a to-do list. Ten minutes you keep are worth more than an hour you abandon.
- The phone "just to check the time". A classic alarm clock or airplane mode until the ritual ends changes everything.
- Guilt. On days when the ritual slips, nothing is lost. You simply start again tomorrow, without judging yourself.
Objects that help
A ritual anchors better through the senses. A handmade cup, a candle, a wooden tray to gather the gestures: these simple objects become silent cues that tell the body "now is the time". They don't need to be expensive, only chosen.
When mornings are truly impossible
Children to get ready, shift work, a very early commute: sometimes the morning isn't yours. Move the ritual to the first calm moment of the day, on the train, at your break, when you get home. What matters isn't the hour, it's the threshold.
The morning ritual opens the first month of The Art of Everyday Living, devoted to inner space. And if you like a little tactful encouragement, Luxia can check in on you during the day, without ever rushing you. To go further, read how to slow down in everyday life.
